Dark Void Movie In The Works

Reliance Big Entertainment and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment Join Forces with Capcom. Sci Fi Thriller will be based on Capcom's New Video Game Franchise Debuting January 19th.

Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, under its Creative Partnership with Reliance BIG Entertainment, and Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, have come to terms on the film rights relating to Dark Void, a new property from Capcom. The theatrical version of the Dark Void game is being developed as a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.

Capcom will release Dark Void on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and PC in North America on January 19, 2010 and across Europe on January 22, 2010.

Dark Void is an adrenaline-fuelled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat which centers on Will, a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission. Will wakes up to find himself in “The Void,” an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization. Together with a faction of humans who have disappeared into the Void, Will takes on the alien race using their own advanced technology including a high-powered jet pack to defeat them and keep order in the civilized world.

Reliance BIG Entertainment, the flagship media and entertainment arm of Indian conglomerate, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG), first introduced its innovative development/production financing deal, termed a Creative Partnership, with Plan B Entertainment at the Cannes Film Festival 2008.

Reliance BIG Entertainment’s Chairman Amit Khanna commented, '”We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them.”

“As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality - a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom Entertainment. “Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters.”

The deal was brokered by CAA on behalf of Reliance BIG Entertainment and Plan B, and by UTA on behalf of Capcom. Plan B was additionally represented in the deal by Jon Liebman and Cynthia Pett-Dante at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

What We Like About Modern Warfare 2... So Far...

Like many of you out there, we were up late last night to be the first to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and here's what we've come away with so far...

If you haven't heard about Modern Warfare 2, you've been hiding under a rock somewhere for the last two years. Now that you've crawled out from under that little rock, we'd like to share what we got out of the first bit of time that we spent with the game last night... errrr... this morning...

So far everything is bigger, better, and prettier. The original Modern Warfare looked amazing, and they've actually topped that with Modern Warfare 2.

We spent the first few hours with the single-player campaign mode, and the story is every bit as good, or better, than the original Modern Warfare. There are some of the original characters back ("Soap" Mactavish, etc), as well as some new characters.

Modern Warfare 2 Screenshot

We don't want to spoil anything, but here's a few tips that we learned the hard way while messing around on the "Cliffhanger" mission:

1. DON'T LET GO! You WILL fall off the mountain and die!
2. DON'T stay in one spot too long... You WILL fall off the mountain and die!

Also, be warned. The "Disturbing Mission" warning is there for good reason. We played through it last night, and it IS disturbing. If you've got younger people playing, or are sensitive to terrorist type attacks, skip it. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

We spent several hours with the online Team Death Match, and it's even funner than the previous Call of Duties. The maps are bigger so we didn't have issues with the "Lob a grenade and pray for a kill" (it actually looks like they reworked the grenade tossing because you can't throw them as far), and there are quite a few maps to play through.

Here's a quick rundown of what we've noticed so far, aside from what we've mentioned already:

TONS of new weapons and items to unlock for them (a silencer for the .50 cal sniper rifle, seriously?!)

Damage screen indicator much more graphic... It's hard to see through all the blood when you've taken a lot of damage.

TONS of new Perks, and the entire perks and killstreak management has been reworked.

Death Streaks are cool, and can help if the person's WAY above you, but so far we like our own custom classes/weapons...

Secondary weapons no longer have to be pistols or watered down primaries.

Snipers blend into the terrain WAY better. We had several people run right over the top of us, just to find our knife in their back!

Inifinity Ward has been MUCH more generous with their experience point awards, including awards for things such as stopping an enemy from getting a kill streak, longest shot, best kill/death ratio, etc. So far it's made it MUCH easier to level.

Level cap set to 70 in Modern Warfare 2.

Aim assist has been added. It's enabled by default and allows you to target an enemy easier when you snap up your sites. Makes it MUCH easier to target in, especially when there are multiple enemies.

The Riot Shield is a nice addition as well. With it you can cover your body, from head to toe (if you crouch). When you've got it on your back (ie. when you want to actually shoot someone) it helps protect your backside from getting shot off.

So far it looks like the hype behind Modern Warfare 2 was well deserved. We'll have a full review up as soon as we spend some more time with the game.

Demon's Souls Halloween Warning

Heroes of Boletaria, be warned: THE OLD ONE'S POWER WILL GROW ON ALL HALLOW'S EVE. If you opt to play Demon's Souls online on Halloween, quest with caution...

Atlus today passed along an ominous warning to online players of Demon's Souls for the PS3.

"Early reports from the Kingdom of Boletaria indicate that the Old One's power grows," announced Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, shuffling awkwardly under the weight of his full set of fluted armor. "We've discovered that the nefarious Demon will seek to descend the land in pure blackness on All Hallow's Eve. His minions will be more powerful, but the rewards for those who seek to challenge them will be greater as well. We don't know how long this dark tendency will last, but we do advise those prone to controller-into-LCD syndrome to proceed carefully." Jabbari then cackled as he quickly put a Thief's ring on his finger and disappeared.

For those of you that dare to play on Hallow's Eve, let us know what happens using the comment area below!

Like Superman, but more Bizarre! New assets and information released for the inclusion of Bizzaro in DCUO!

Sonly Online Entertainment released new information and assets today for DC Universe Online, including a few details about Bizzaro!

In hopes of having a Superman of his very own, Lex Luthor called upon his top scientist Dr. Teng to scan and replicate the hero’s genetic structure. Due to complications in the construction of the carbon copy, their results gave birth to a monstrous menace, Bizarro.

Bizarro has a reputation on the streets of Metropolis that is the polar opposite of Superman’s. With freeze vision, flame breath, and strength to match Superman’s, Bizarro is a daunting enemy. Kryptonite, which can cripple Superman, actually gives Bizarro strength, giving him an advantage over Superman.

Chris Kingsley, CTO of Rebellion said, “DirectX 11 provides opportunities never exploited before in 3D graphical terms, with features such as the Shader Model 5.0 providing better shadow and depth of field aspects to the game, and also multi-threaded rendering enabling the Aliens Vs. Predator futuristic characters and environments to be realised in exacting detail but with absolutely no frame rate issues. We are confident we will deliver a game the fans have been waiting for and one of which we will be very proud.”

Chris Southall, Technical Director at SEGA Europe added, “With the advent of DirectX 11 on PC and the new DirectX 11 class graphics hardware, the increased speed, realism and fidelity of rendering mean that it’s possible to achieve more in a videogame than ever before. SEGA is delighted to be working with Rebellion and AMD to maximise the use of this new technology for Aliens vs. Predator, and we feel both these partners are really doing something very special. Aliens vs. Predator is set to be one of SEGA’s biggest ever titles, and we are very happy that it will also be one of the very first DirectX 11 titles out to market.”

Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, New Media for Fox Licensing commented, “Rebellion knows the Aliens Vs. Predator franchise almost as well as we do. We can’t wait for gamers to see what they’re ready to unleash now that they have the ability to craft a game in even greater detail. It’s going to be great.”

Win A Tesla Roadster!

Dark Void Fans Will Now Get a Chance to Pilot More Than a Jet Pack with a Chance to Win a Tesla Roadster!

Capcom and Tesla Motors have partnered to bring gamers the Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway. The sweepstakes, which began Monday at an exclusive event at the flagship Tesla Motors showroom in Silicon Valley, invites gamers to visit Capcom’s official Dark Void site to enter for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas to test drive a Roadster, as well as the Grand Prize: their very own Roadster.

The Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway is the first time that Tesla Motors has partnered with another company to give away a Roadster, the record-setting electric sports car that’s faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo and greener than a Toyota Prius. To celebrate the launch of the sweepstakes and promote Capcom’s highly anticipated action-adventure game, Dark Void, Capcom held a test drive event Monday that allowed the media and San Francisco Bay Area members of Capcom-Unity.com to experience both the car and the game.

“One of the characters in Dark Void is brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla, whose passion and intelligence inspired creativity and advances in technology far ahead of his time,” said Mona Hamilton, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “Our partnership with Tesla Motors continues this spirit of creativity and innovation, paring our next generation of interactive entertainment with their next generation of automotive history. The company continues to push the technological envelope with the first electric sports car to go from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. That’s almost as fast as the main vehicle in the game -- the jet pack!”

Dark Void is a sci-fi action-adventure game that combines adrenaline-fuelled aerial and ground-pounding combat. Set in a parallel universe called “The Void,” players take on the role of Will, a pilot dropped into incredible circumstances within the mysterious Void. This unlikely hero soon finds himself swept into a desperate struggle for survival, joining forces with a rebel human group called The Survivors. Trapped in the Void, these resistance fighters are battling to hold off a mysterious alien race that plans to threaten Earth. Dark Void, developed by Airtight Games and published by Capcom, will be shipping on January 12, 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

To enter the sweepstakes, visit the official site Dark Void site at www.darkvoidgame.com/tesla/ to sign up for a chance to win. Five lucky winners will get a free trip to Las Vegas this January during the Consumer Electronics Show to test drive the Tesla Roadster with the Dark Void development team. In February, one very lucky winner will win the grand prize -- their very own Tesla Roadster. Gamers who enter before Dec. 7 are eligible for the Test Drive Event and the grand prize. Those who enter after Dec. 7 will be eligible for the grand prize only. By signing up for the sweepstakes, fans will also be entered into the Dark Void community to stay up to date with game news, new assets and announcements. The winner of the Tesla Roadster will be announced in February 2010.

“Nikola Tesla obsessed over building the perfect machine -- just like Tesla Motors. Until the parallel-universe jet pack becomes a reality, there’s always the Roadster,” said Ricardo Reyes, vice president, communications, Tesla Motors. “It’s only fitting that we partner with Capcom, another cutting-edge company, to honor a revolutionary genius.”
