Experience the legendary battle between the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS as Activision Publishing, Inc. announced today that Transformers: War for Cybertron is in development by award-winning High Moon Studios. Based on Hasbro’s legendary TRANSFORMERS property, the game takes players to the TRANSFORMERS characters’ home planet of CYBERTRON for a new look into the epic story of the grand civil war that spawned one of the most brutal rivalries of all time.

“Transformers: War for Cybertron is an origins story, taking players on a gripping, adrenaline-fueled journey that precedes the TRANSFORMERS characters’ arrival on Earth,” said Rob Kostich, head of marketing, licensed products, Activision Publishing, Inc. “The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches that are fully immersive from start to finish.”

“For the first time, Hasbro is working with Activision to drive the TRANSFORMERS fiction forward into new story arcs, demonstrating pivotal moments in Transformers history that defined who they are,” said Aaron Archer, Senior Design Director, Hasbro. “This remarkable video game helps us to tell a critical event in TRANSFORMERS lore that will be used as canon for future storylines in a way we could have only dreamed of a few years ago. Modern Warfare 2 Review

We finally feel like we’ve spent enough time with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that we could give an honest assessment of the game. Read on to see what we like, what we don’t like, and our opinion on the infamous “Airport Terminal” level.

Before we get into our review for Modern Warfare 2, we have to admit that we were huge fans of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, even more so than the more recent Call of Duty 5: World at War.

With that preamble out of the way, let’s get into our review. We just recently completed the single-player campaign, and all we can say is “Wow!” If you liked the tension and drama from the original Modern Warfare, or World at War, Infinity Ward takes it up a notch. We don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but it’s safe to say that the war spills over onto American soil, and the game does an amazing job of putting you right into the action. The graphics and sound are amazing! Hunting through suburban neighborhoods and slugging it out from atop a local restaurant brings a whole new level of realism to the game.

Without giving too much away, the campaign is split between two different groups, those in the U.S. and those overseas trying to stop the terrorists. You’ll alternate back and forth between the two groups and see why specific events occur, etc. Annoying at times, because you don’t want to stop and jump to a different mission in another part of the world, it does help mix things up and change the pace.

From racing away on snowmobiles to chasing down a terrorist lead through downtown slums, the single-player campaign has something for everyone. It could be compared to not only enjoying your favorite action flick, but having the ability to participate in it as well. Everything is top-notch including the mission objectives, locations, and most importantly, the plot. There is an actual story here, and it has all the suspense and plot twists you would expect from a Tom Clancy or John Grisham novel.

One can’t bring up “Modern Warfare 2” without the media hype surrounding the infamous “Airport Terminal” level. Yes, there is an “Airport Terminal” level where civilians die, and yes, it can be rather disturbing, but there are a few things to keep in mind when discussing this level: 1) you are given SEVERAL options to skip the level, without affecting the game, your score, etc. 2) your character doesn’t have to actually shoot anyone in the level, the terrorists will do all of it with or without you. 3) NO the level could not be taken out of the game without destroying the game.

The “Airport Terminal” level is CRITICAL to the overall game story. The game couldn’t actually take place without the critical events that transpire during the level. Could they have done it differently, using some type of mission briefing, a cut-scene, etc? Most definitely, but it would lose the impact that playing through the level has.

The level takes a couple of minutes out of an 8+ hour game, but it sets the stage for EVERYTHING. If you’re at all hesitant, skip it. If you’ve started the level and it’s too much for you, pause the game and skip the level. You’ve been warned, so do as you see fit. We WOULDN’T recommend letting your kids play this level… Modern Warfare 2 is rated “M” for a reason and it’s definitely a game that’s meant for adults.

One reviewer said of Modern Warfare 2 “You come for the single-player, but the multiplayer is why you stay.” We would have to agree with that statement 100%. The campaign is great fun, but we absolutely LOVE the multiplayer. We have everything we would expect from Infinity Ward, including TONS of weapons, weapon attachments and kill streaks, but what they had with the original Modern Warfare has been re-tooled slightly, and we love the changes.

Among those changes include “Death Streaks” that can be used when you’ve died a specific number of times without dispatching any enemies. They include such things as stealing the weapons and perks used by the person that killed you, to a “Pain Pill” that increases your health for a brief period of time when spawning. There are even a few that were Perks in previous versions of the game, including the ever popular "Ha ha ha, I just killed you... CRAP you dropped grenades!" “Martyrdom” “Death Streak.”

The “Kill Streaks” have been revamped as well, allowing you to have three kill streak rewards active at any one time, and the ability to unlock more rewards as you level. We have the entire kill streaks listed here. Needless to say, if you’re good enough in multiplayer mode, you have the ability to launch a game-ending tactical nuke, assuming you can wrack up the 25 kills without dying, and you’ve unlocked that particular reward.

You’re also not relegated to using just a pistol as your secondary weapon and don’t have to waste a perk to get something that you can use effectively. In Modern Warfare 2 you can select between several different weapons, including machine pistols (fully automatic), shotguns and more. You even have the ability to unlock attachments for your secondary weapons.

Our two biggest complaints about the previous Call of Duty games were the size of the maps and the pain caused by the host ending the game prior to the time or score limit being reached.

The maps in Modern Warfare 2 are MUCH larger, especially when compared to the original Modern Warfare. The spawn and frag mentality that plagued Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a thing of the past, for which we are VERY grateful. There is also much more variety in the location of the maps, as well as the overall number of maps.

Infinity Ward also added a “Host Migration” feature, which prevents the game from ending because the host ended the game. We have a video of it here, so that you can see it in action. Needless to say, we’ve seen it several times already, and it’s worked like a charm every time, allowing us to continue our fragfest regardless of what the host does.

We were a little spoiled with Call of Duty: World at War, and expected some of the same things that we saw there, but so far, they aren’t to be with Modern Warfare 2. Our two biggest complaints about the game would be the lack of a co-op mode for the campaign, and the inability to drive any of the vehicles in the multiplayer modes… The new “Spec Ops” mode is cool, and we've had a ton of fun running through it with our friends, but it doesn't compare to sharing the complete campaign experience with a buddy.

Our absolute biggest complaint about the game is the fact that there aren’t more hours in the day, and that the human body actually requires sleep to maintain itself. Modern Warfare 2 may just be our overall game of the year, and is definitely our shooter of the year. If you love the Call of Duty franchise or shooters in general, you can’t go wrong with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We give it a 10 out of 10.

Modern Warfare 2 is available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It is rated Mature by the ESRB.

Dark Void Movie In The Works

Reliance Big Entertainment and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment Join Forces with Capcom. Sci Fi Thriller will be based on Capcom's New Video Game Franchise Debuting January 19th.

Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, under its Creative Partnership with Reliance BIG Entertainment, and Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, have come to terms on the film rights relating to Dark Void, a new property from Capcom. The theatrical version of the Dark Void game is being developed as a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.

Capcom will release Dark Void on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and PC in North America on January 19, 2010 and across Europe on January 22, 2010.

Dark Void is an adrenaline-fuelled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat which centers on Will, a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission. Will wakes up to find himself in “The Void,” an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization. Together with a faction of humans who have disappeared into the Void, Will takes on the alien race using their own advanced technology including a high-powered jet pack to defeat them and keep order in the civilized world.

Reliance BIG Entertainment, the flagship media and entertainment arm of Indian conglomerate, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG), first introduced its innovative development/production financing deal, termed a Creative Partnership, with Plan B Entertainment at the Cannes Film Festival 2008.

Reliance BIG Entertainment’s Chairman Amit Khanna commented, '”We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them.”

“As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality - a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom Entertainment. “Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters.”

The deal was brokered by CAA on behalf of Reliance BIG Entertainment and Plan B, and by UTA on behalf of Capcom. Plan B was additionally represented in the deal by Jon Liebman and Cynthia Pett-Dante at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

What We Like About Modern Warfare 2... So Far...

Like many of you out there, we were up late last night to be the first to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and here's what we've come away with so far...

If you haven't heard about Modern Warfare 2, you've been hiding under a rock somewhere for the last two years. Now that you've crawled out from under that little rock, we'd like to share what we got out of the first bit of time that we spent with the game last night... errrr... this morning...

So far everything is bigger, better, and prettier. The original Modern Warfare looked amazing, and they've actually topped that with Modern Warfare 2.

We spent the first few hours with the single-player campaign mode, and the story is every bit as good, or better, than the original Modern Warfare. There are some of the original characters back ("Soap" Mactavish, etc), as well as some new characters.

Modern Warfare 2 Screenshot

We don't want to spoil anything, but here's a few tips that we learned the hard way while messing around on the "Cliffhanger" mission:

1. DON'T LET GO! You WILL fall off the mountain and die!
2. DON'T stay in one spot too long... You WILL fall off the mountain and die!

Also, be warned. The "Disturbing Mission" warning is there for good reason. We played through it last night, and it IS disturbing. If you've got younger people playing, or are sensitive to terrorist type attacks, skip it. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

We spent several hours with the online Team Death Match, and it's even funner than the previous Call of Duties. The maps are bigger so we didn't have issues with the "Lob a grenade and pray for a kill" (it actually looks like they reworked the grenade tossing because you can't throw them as far), and there are quite a few maps to play through.

Here's a quick rundown of what we've noticed so far, aside from what we've mentioned already:

TONS of new weapons and items to unlock for them (a silencer for the .50 cal sniper rifle, seriously?!)

Damage screen indicator much more graphic... It's hard to see through all the blood when you've taken a lot of damage.

TONS of new Perks, and the entire perks and killstreak management has been reworked.

Death Streaks are cool, and can help if the person's WAY above you, but so far we like our own custom classes/weapons...

Secondary weapons no longer have to be pistols or watered down primaries.

Snipers blend into the terrain WAY better. We had several people run right over the top of us, just to find our knife in their back!

Inifinity Ward has been MUCH more generous with their experience point awards, including awards for things such as stopping an enemy from getting a kill streak, longest shot, best kill/death ratio, etc. So far it's made it MUCH easier to level.

Level cap set to 70 in Modern Warfare 2.

Aim assist has been added. It's enabled by default and allows you to target an enemy easier when you snap up your sites. Makes it MUCH easier to target in, especially when there are multiple enemies.

The Riot Shield is a nice addition as well. With it you can cover your body, from head to toe (if you crouch). When you've got it on your back (ie. when you want to actually shoot someone) it helps protect your backside from getting shot off.

So far it looks like the hype behind Modern Warfare 2 was well deserved. We'll have a full review up as soon as we spend some more time with the game.

Demon's Souls Halloween Warning

Heroes of Boletaria, be warned: THE OLD ONE'S POWER WILL GROW ON ALL HALLOW'S EVE. If you opt to play Demon's Souls online on Halloween, quest with caution...

Atlus today passed along an ominous warning to online players of Demon's Souls for the PS3.

"Early reports from the Kingdom of Boletaria indicate that the Old One's power grows," announced Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, shuffling awkwardly under the weight of his full set of fluted armor. "We've discovered that the nefarious Demon will seek to descend the land in pure blackness on All Hallow's Eve. His minions will be more powerful, but the rewards for those who seek to challenge them will be greater as well. We don't know how long this dark tendency will last, but we do advise those prone to controller-into-LCD syndrome to proceed carefully." Jabbari then cackled as he quickly put a Thief's ring on his finger and disappeared.

For those of you that dare to play on Hallow's Eve, let us know what happens using the comment area below!

Chris Southall, Technical Director at SEGA Europe added, “With the advent of DirectX 11 on PC and the new DirectX 11 class graphics hardware, the increased speed, realism and fidelity of rendering mean that it’s possible to achieve more in a videogame than ever before. Aliens vs. Predator is set to be one of SEGA’s biggest ever titles, and we are very happy that it will also be one of the very first DirectX 11 titles out to market.”

Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, New Media for Fox Licensing commented, “Rebellion knows the Aliens Vs. Predator franchise almost as well as we do. We can’t wait for gamers to see what they’re ready to unleash now that they have the ability to craft a game in even greater detail. It’s going to be great.”

Win A Tesla Roadster!

Dark Void Fans Will Now Get a Chance to Pilot More Than a Jet Pack with a Chance to Win a Tesla Roadster!

Capcom and Tesla Motors have partnered to bring gamers the Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway. The sweepstakes, which began Monday at an exclusive event at the flagship Tesla Motors showroom in Silicon Valley, invites gamers to visit Capcom’s official Dark Void site to enter for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas to test drive a Roadster, as well as the Grand Prize: their very own Roadster.

The Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway is the first time that Tesla Motors has partnered with another company to give away a Roadster, the record-setting electric sports car that’s faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo and greener than a Toyota Prius. To celebrate the launch of the sweepstakes and promote Capcom’s highly anticipated action-adventure game, Dark Void, Capcom held a test drive event Monday that allowed the media and San Francisco Bay Area members of Capcom-Unity.com to experience both the car and the game.

“One of the characters in Dark Void is brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla, whose passion and intelligence inspired creativity and advances in technology far ahead of his time,” said Mona Hamilton, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “Our partnership with Tesla Motors continues this spirit of creativity and innovation, paring our next generation of interactive entertainment with their next generation of automotive history. The company continues to push the technological envelope with the first electric sports car to go from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. That’s almost as fast as the main vehicle in the game -- the jet pack!”

Dark Void is a sci-fi action-adventure game that combines adrenaline-fuelled aerial and ground-pounding combat. Set in a parallel universe called “The Void,” players take on the role of Will, a pilot dropped into incredible circumstances within the mysterious Void. This unlikely hero soon finds himself swept into a desperate struggle for survival, joining forces with a rebel human group called The Survivors. Trapped in the Void, these resistance fighters are battling to hold off a mysterious alien race that plans to threaten Earth. Dark Void, developed by Airtight Games and published by Capcom, will be shipping on January 12, 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

To enter the sweepstakes, visit the official site Dark Void site at www.darkvoidgame.com/tesla/ to sign up for a chance to win. Five lucky winners will get a free trip to Las Vegas this January during the Consumer Electronics Show to test drive the Tesla Roadster with the Dark Void development team. In February, one very lucky winner will win the grand prize -- their very own Tesla Roadster. Gamers who enter before Dec. 7 are eligible for the Test Drive Event and the grand prize. Those who enter after Dec. 7 will be eligible for the grand prize only. By signing up for the sweepstakes, fans will also be entered into the Dark Void community to stay up to date with game news, new assets and announcements. The winner of the Tesla Roadster will be announced in February 2010.

“Nikola Tesla obsessed over building the perfect machine -- just like Tesla Motors. Until the parallel-universe jet pack becomes a reality, there’s always the Roadster,” said Ricardo Reyes, vice president, communications, Tesla Motors. “It’s only fitting that we partner with Capcom, another cutting-edge company, to honor a revolutionary genius.”

Atari and Cryptic have released Champions Online’s powerful hero profiles. We've included an overview of each of the heroes, and will release more in-depth details for each hero as the launch date draws near!

Amphibian
Since that last explosive encounter with Stingray, Amphibian has relocated to Vibora Bay where he sometimes guest lectures at Sinclair University. He still carries the hope that he might run into Stingray again someday and save her from her own emotional torment.

Although he can fight, and quite well, he prefers peaceful solutions. He regularly patrols the coast, saving the lives of people threatened by boating accidents or storms. He saves them as he couldn’t save his parents, and finds some peace in it.

Defender
The world does not know James Harmon IV leads a secret life as the noble Champion known as Defender. Most people think of James only as a shiftless, womanizing playboy who’s taken his daddy’s place at the reigns of defense manufacturer Harmon Industries, and credit young Harmon’s success to family money, good looks, and natural charisma. But Harmon doesn’t particularly care what people think of James Harmon IV, as long as he is free to do good in the world as Defender.

He has recently finished testing a new and improved suit of armor, and is now using it in the field. A servo-musculature system gives him super strength, jet boots allows him to fly, and powerful micro-generators create a multitude of different energy blasts. Micro-computers in his suit control life support functions, communications and protection against environmental extremes.

Defender is absolutely fearless, and will take on any mission to combat evil. He takes his role as a hero seriously, and always acts as a role model. His attitude and achievements have inspired millions, and his charity drives have funded countless causes. A truly noble spirit, Defender's strict moral code prevents him from taking another's life.

Although Defender is a decisive leader and a bold, courageous warrior, he is somewhat shy and awkward socially. He has begun a tentative romance with his mystically-powered Champions teammate Witchcraft, and it may give him the confidence he needs to be more outgoing.

Dr. Silverback
When he battles villains, he does it with intellect, not force. The amazing gadgets he built in his lab, help him. He also has a tremendous network of contacts throughout the world and has become an expert at gathering information. When he must go into battle, he always takes his tangleweb gun, which incapacitates villains without harming them.

He is the go-to guy for the Champions when they have a scientific or technological challenge. He’s also a favorite with media because of his ability to explain scientific principles with charm and flair.

Dr. Silverback is an outspoken and incredibly dynamic superhero. He generally doesn’t go up against supervillains alone, but instead uses his superhuman intelligence to save the day.

Gadget Boy
Gadget Boy is one of the smartest, and loneliest, people on the planet. He’s an absolute technological wizard and a dedicated superhero.

These days you’ll most often find him hanging around Monster Island and working with his friend, and fellow genius, Takashi Toru to decipher Qularr technology.

Ironclad
Although not human, Ironclad is happy on Earth. He is kindhearted and noble, and always sympathetic to those in need. When he's not battling evil, he often donates his time and awesome strength to help build clinics and shelters to the poor, or help with rescue and recovery efforts after natural disasters.

Ironclad's armor and sword are trophies from his years in the Malvan gladiatorial pits. The armor is a relic from Malva's ancient, star-spanning empire, and is decorated with the flame motif common in Malvan art. It was given to Ironclad as a gift by the Phazor, the absolute ruler of Malva, in honor of his many victories. The sword Ironclad wrested from the hands of the Phazor's champion in epic combat. He continues to use these trophies as a symbol of his freedom from gladiatorial slavery and to show that he will always triumph over his foes.

Seeking a permanent home and comrades in the fight against villainy, Ironclad joined the Champions. He works well with his teammates, but his great strength and resilience give him an overinflated sense of confidence. He doesn't think anything can really hurt him, and that belief sometimes causes him to be reckless.

Ironclad's ship was destroyed when he crash-landed on Earth, and he's accepted that he may be stranded here for the rest of his life. He is extremely curious about Earth culture, and is slowly learning about humans and their ways. Unfortunately, most of his information comes from television and the Internet.

Recently, Ironclad has been concerned about a rise in activity on Monster Island. His mighty strength and armored body may not be enough to stop VIPER's plans there. New allies may be needed.

Justiciar
Justiciar has left his free spirit past behind to become a capable leader and businessman. He works hard and plays hard, and inspires his teammates with his quiet determination and loyal spirit. He's soft-spoken almost to the point of being taciturn, and avoids getting involved in interpersonal disputes.

He never forgets a kindness, but never forgives a disservice, either. If he feels someone needs to be "taught a lesson," he will wait for weeks, or even months, until he finds the perfect moment.

Justiciar has recently become concerned with an upswing in VIPER activity in a remote area of Canada. He's meeting with members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at Force Station Steelhead to get a better grasp on the situation so he can determine what needs to be done to keep Canada safe.

Kinetik
It took some convincing, but Kinetik has now joined the Champions as their fifth member. In some ways, he’s still uncertain of his worth within the group. He knows he’s good at one-on-one fights, but he’s not sure how much use he’ll be to the Champions when they go up against larger groups. On his own, however, facing down one or two villains, he’s absolutely sure of his abilities to succeed. It’s ironic, since he’s actually a wonderful tactical addition to the Champions and he’s slightly overconfident in one-on-one encounters – at least when it comes to major supervillains.

He is a genuinely good person, and a pretty laid back guy. He’s very proud of his part in defending Millennium City, and he’s very protective of all its citizens. He does have a soft spot for his best friend, Sapphire, though. He’s pretty sure she doesn’t need his protection, but he’s always there for her.

Mayte Sanchez
She is one of the most ethical and tenacious superheroes you will ever meet. Thanks to her own experiences with PTSD, she’s very grounded and a wonderful mentor for younger superheroes, like her buddy Sapphire. She prefers to fight hand to hand, but will use a variety of guns when necessary. While her abilities are impressive, she has a tendency to overestimate how much damage she can take, which gets her in trouble from time to time.

Sapphire
Of all the Champions, Sapphire is certainly the most outgoing. These days she’s still a superstar, but her musical career definitely comes in second to her superheroing career.

Initially, Sapphire was a bit of a show off when fighting, tossing in extra flashy moves that looked good. As she became more confident and secure, she toned down the flash and focused more on developing her abilities. Ironically, that same superstar status that makes people question her abilities as a superhero has actually provided her with more experience than any other Champion. Everywhere she goes, bad guys attack her either for the notoriety of being able to say they’ve fought her, or for the chance to get an autograph.

She outgrew her crush on Defender over the years and has become great friends with Witchcraft. She’s delighted that her teammates have found love with each other, although she is somewhat envious. She’d like to find her Mr. Right. Or at least her Mr. Cuddly.

(She has been receiving a lot of letters from a secret admirer – all right, not so secret – promising to steal her the biggest sapphire in the world and asking her to become Empress of the Night, but while amused she’s pretty sure she doesn’t wish to become Mrs. Foxbat.)

Witchcraft
Witchcraft is the quietest member of The Champions, preferring to remain in the background while Defender or other, more outspoken members of the team grab the spotlight.

Her reclusiviness is partly because she is gentle and soft-spoken by nature, but also because she feels she has been "tainted" by her family's evil ways; and therefore isn't worthy to be a superhero. At times her self-doubt causes her to hesitate when she should act decisively.

Being a member of The Champions has helped Witchcraft start to gain some confidence in herself and her abilities. She's found a friend and a partner in Defender, and their tentative romance could help Witchcraft blossom into the hero she has the potential to be.

Witchcraft is a naturally gifted spellcaster. While many of her spells are weak, she has a talent that few can match. As her skills and confidence grow, so will her power – some members of the Trismegistus Council predict that someday Witchcraft will be one of the greatest spellcasters on Earth.

The Circle of the Scarlet Moon is eager to reclaim Witchcraft's power, and continues to pursue her. The coven's machinations make Witchcraft's life difficult, but even worse for her is the murderous ire of her twin sister, who has rejected the teachings of the Circle and struck out on her own as the supervillain Talisman.

Talisman will stop at nothing to destroy Witchcraft, and Witchcraft has decided it is her sad responsibility to put a stop to her sister's evil deeds. Recently, Witchcraft has received reports that Talisman has been seen in the Southwest Desert. She'll need allies to find out what her sister's nefarious plans are.
